Urgent: Palo Duro Camp Out

Troop 531,

After investigating expected gas availability, we are unfortunately cancelling the trip to Palo Duro canyon.  The gas shortage is only in the local region (out to about Wichita Falls) but that is far enough to force us to consider it high enough risk to cancel the trip.  The shortage seems to be due primarily to panic buying, so as Scouts, act to calm those around you.

We would still like to give the Scouts a chance to camp, and can arrange a short notice camp out to Lake Ray Roberts.  This is less than a tank of gas there and back while pulling the trailer, so gas availability should not be a problem.  At Ray Roberts, we will have access to hiking and biking trails, as well as fishing and swimming.  In addition, the skies are somewhat darker and if cloud cover allows we should be able to do some astronomy.  We will likely only camp Saturday night.

If you are interested, please contact Mr. Meyer at cksmeyer@gmail.com by 9 PM Thursday night.  We need you to indicate 3 things:

1. That you are interested in going
2. If you wish to bring a bicycle (you need a helmet as well)
3. If you are a grubmaster (we might need to combine patrols)

We will work out reimbursements once everything has settled.

Thanks,
Pat LaCour
Chris Meyer
