Troop 531 Swim Test this Sunday, May 6

posted Apr 30, 2018, 6:11 PM by Jason Ball
Hi Troop,
Please attend the Swim Test this Sunday.  If you plan to participate in aquatic activities (like summer camp, Whitewater campout, etc...) all Scouts and adults must have a swim test.  Without a swim test rating, you are considered to be a
"non-swimmer" for Scouting purposes, which restricts your water activities.
Your classification as a Swimmer/Beginner/Non-Swimmer dictates where you can swim, how deep, and watercraft you can use.

WHEN:        Sunday, May 6 from from 6-8 pm
WHERE:      APEX Center at 3003 Alma Road (intersection of Alma/El Dorado)
COST:          $2
WHO:           EVERY Scout and adult that plans to camp with the troop.  Swim tests are valid for 1 year, so if you did
last year's test you are good for the upcoming Whitewater camp out, but not for summer camp or any other
camp outs that we have that involve water.  This includes camp outs that have not been scheduled yet.
QUESTION: Contact Chris Kiger (214) 945-5522 or Matt Delozier (matt_delozier@att.net)

Here are the types of tests/classification:

Swimmer
Jump feet first into water over the head, level off, and begin swimming.
Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: side, breast, trudgen, or crawl. Swim 25 yards using an easy, resting backstroke.
The 100 yards must be completed without stops and must include at least one sharp turn.
Rest by floating…Long enough to demonstrate ability to rest when exhausted.

Beginner
Jump feet first into water over the head, level off, and begin swimming.
Swim 25 feet on the surface.
Stop, turn, and resume swimming back to the starting place.

Non-Swimmer
Did not complete either of the swimming tests.
