New YPT Requirements for all registered adults in troop and Venture Crew >18

posted Mar 30, 2018, 11:23 AM by Jason Ball
Hello troop,

There is new Youth Protection Training (YPT) that is required that is a little bit different than in the past.  This is BSA required and does not include any additional requirements that may be part of our charter organization's (St. Gabriel) requirements.  If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

NEW YPT - nobody is certified yet
There is new online YPT and new FtF YPT.  The online version is REQUIRED for EVERYBODY.  Even if you take the new FtF (available after March 31), you must still take this new online version.  As long as you complete and document online YPT, you are fine for weekend campouts when you are a registered adult.  If you are going on a summer or winter camp or campout longer than 72 hours in the state of Texas, you must take the FtF in addition to the online.

FAQ's...
Who has to take the new online YPT?
All registered adults with the Troop and all Venture Crew members 18 or older.
Who has to take the new FtF YPT?
All registered adults with the Troop and all Venture Crew members 18 or older that are attending a campout lasting longer than 72 hours in the state of Texas.  This is in addition to online.
When must the new online YPT be completed?
By October 1, 2018 all new and currently registered leaders will be required to complete the updated online training.
Any new adult that is crossing over or joining the troop that was not previously a registered adult must take this
training prior to completing the registration.
I'm confused or need more information.
or give me a call.  This document does not mention FtF because it is a national BSA doc, and FtF is required only for
    Texas.
How do I take the online training?
Sign into https://my.scouting.org/  Please have your BSA ID# ready if you have one and have not yet created a
My Scouting account.  Please make sure your BSA ID# is attached to this account.
I have lost my BSA ID# card, how can I obtain my ID# ?
Call the help desk at My.Scouting.org  (972) 580-2489 M-F from 7 am to 7 pm and they can give you your ID# and
help you add your ID# to your account.  It's important that your ID is associated with your training records online.
What do I do after I have taken the training?
Save the online certificate you receive and email it to me and I will make sure it is logged with the Troop.
This should happen automatically if your ID# is associated with your My.Scouting.Org account.
For FtF training, e-mail me a picture of your card - it won't flow through automatically to your My.Scouting.Org
    account.

Sorry that this e-mail is so long.  I just want to make sure everybody is clear on what is required.
