**** Important Changes BSA Rank Advancement for 2016 ****

The BSA began transitioning to new rank advancements starting on 1/1/2016. The biggest reason for the change is that the BSA Boy Scout Handbook has been overhauled and updated.

Scouts that are working on the Tenderfoot through First Class ranks MAY continue to follow the old requirements, but MUST convert to the current requirements upon attaining First Class.

Those scouts who have completed the First Class rank MAY complete the rank they are currently working on in the old requirements, but MUST convert to the current requirements for subsequent ranks.

Starting with the next rank, all scouts under the rank of Life must transition over to the new requirements.

Regardless of rank, all scouts must follow the new requirements after 1/1/2017.  I.e., if you haven’t made Eagle and all of your palms by next New Year’s Day, you will have to follow the new requirements afterwards.

It is not necessary to purchase a new book, and we have provided links below that outline the new requirements that you can insert into your scouts current book.

If you wish to purchase a new book, please understand that there has been a strong run on them and the scout shop is currently out of books until Mid February.

The BSA has provided a fairly comprehensive Q&A piece that should be able to address any questions you might have on this transition. If you have any questions that are not covered in the Q&A, requirement insert, or comparison pieces, please contact Scott Smith atssmit92@grandecom.net.
