New Youth Protection Trainings required by Oct. 1, 2018

posted Aug 27, 2018, 7:32 PM by Jason Ball

***IMPORTANT***

All new and currently registered adult leaders are required to complete this training.  Please send me a screen shot of your completion certificate when you are done.

The Boy Scouts of America's new updated Youth Protection Training is mandatory for all registered adult leaders in all BSA programs on March 14th.  It replaces the face to face Youth Protection Training required for camps by the state of Texas.  By October 1, 2018, all new and currently registered leaders will be required to complete the updated training.   If you took the new YPT between Feb13 and March 13, they don't have to fully retake it to comply with Texas FTF, they can just retake the quiz.  It takes a couple hours for it to update their certificate.

Mandatory Updated Adult Youth Protection Training
Quick Facts
In some states this may be known as the mandatory reporter of child abuse training required by state law. BSA National Mandatory Training Policy
• Youth Protection Training (YPT) must be taken every two years.
• Councils are permitted to enact additional requirements. Mandatory Training The Boy Scouts of America’s new updated Youth Protection Training is mandatory for all registered adult leaders in all BSA programs. Other adults participating in Scouting are strongly encouraged to take this one-hour online training.
The mandatory training modules are the following: • Overview and Policies • Sexual Abuse • Bullying
The prior version of BSA’s Youth Protection trainings will no longer be available.
The updated training replaces other Youth Protection trainings and is required for all BSA programs. By October 1, 2018, all new and currently registered leaders will be required to complete the updated training.
The enhanced and updated content will allow leaders and councils to comply with all current legal requirements.
• Adults accompanying units on activities who are present at the activity for 72 hours or more, must also take Youth Protection Training. The 72 hours need not be consecutive.
• New leaders are required to take Youth Protection Training prior to completing the registration process. • Units cannot re-charter unless all unit leaders have completed YPT within two years.
• Adult Youth Protection Training is required for adult program participants 18 years or older. Adult program participants (Venturing, Order of the Arrow, Exploring) must complete adult Youth Protection Training before submitting their adult application.

my.Scouting.org Account Users
You must have a my.Scouting.org account to take the training (BSA registration is not required for an account). Printing Training Completion Certificate The training certificate will only be available for printing after completing the three required training modules and passing the test which completes the Youth Protection Training. It is available on my.Scouting.org on the Dashboard by clicking the print icon: After clicking the print icon, the certificate opens as a pdf that can be printed and/or saved
